Reports to: Design Team Engineering Manager. Who reports in to this position: N/A Location: Kandahar Airfield, a secure NATO military base Working Conditions: Based in an operational theatre of war, with arduous conditions. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Essential: * Technical - Will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a construction related environment and have extensive experience in a drawing office environment. * Applicants who do not have a degree qualification may be considered for the post if they have completed a recognised apprenticeship or a relevant alternative period of training and obtained a Higher National Diploma, BTEC, SCOTVEC in Cartography, and or GIS, plus have at least 5yrs practical experience in that trade or specialism. * Minimum of 5 years relevant post qualification experience in a construction environment. * Must be a competent AutoCAD user as there is no on-site support. * Applicant must be fully conversant with 2D AutoCAD (ideally version 2012) especially the use of x-refs and custom User Coordinate system (UCS),* Due to the diverse nature of the residents of KAF the applicant must be competent and confident in dealing with people who do not have English as their first language. * Ability to provide accurate technical expertise and advice to the DPM Infra / Design Team Engineering manager and any other staff / departments as and when required. * Possess experience in building strong relationships with clients and senior management and to demonstrate a clear " customer focus". * Full Driving Licence. * Must be fluent in English language levels to a minimum of STANAG level 3333. * Must be able to obtain a UK or NATO Secret Clearance Preferred: * Knowledge of airfield operations and services would be an advantage. * Candidates will be required to hold a NATO Secret security clearance although this can be sought whilst in post. * Full and up to date understanding of KBR corporate procedures and capabilities. * Be familiar with NATO, ICAO and ISO terminology. * Experience of working on operations in austere remote sites or in developing nations. Core Responsibilities: * Manipulation and presentation of 2D geographical information, relevant to a complex, large scale, services project, combining electronic versions of traditional paper maps and plans plus other sources of data. * Preparation of CAD drawings and specifications to support in theatre staff in their areas of speciality. * Issuing dig permits and updating utilities drawings based on information received from contractors. * Updating the master KAF basemap which is used by all the stakeholder nations to plan their infrastructure projects. * Due to the wide range of services that use geographical information work activities vary. Types of activities may include: Collection of geographical information: * Designing maps, graphics, illustrations and layouts (using AutoCAD, Word, Powerpoint, Visio etc - not Photoshop, Illustrator or similar); * Liaising with surveyors and designers (almost exclusively military clients) Storage of geographical information: * Creating and maintaining the structures necessary for data storage and capturing necessary changes ; Manipulation, analysis and presentation of geographical information: * Converting information from one format to another; * Use CAD system to produce / amend drawings on site as necessary, * CAD experience including the preparation of construction/civil general arrangement drawings, plans and section drawings and elevations, roads, drainage, civil structures etc. * Working to an approved Quality Management system (ISO 9001) with regard to drawing numbering, drawing registers, layering conventions etc. * Allocating and issuing building numbers in accordance with the COMKAF Standard Operating Procedure. * Act as the focal point for all drawing/ map requests as required. * Manage and control the timely delivery of any accurate drawing / map requests as required. * Follow and enforce HSE guidance and plans at all times. * Attend regular meetings with stakeholder and client as required. * Advise in the Due Diligence process of all new buildings as required. * Provide any technical input required for contractually requested reports. * Undertake any other duties deemed necessary to supplement or balance the services provided Salary and Benefits: * $5300 as the base starting salary, however this is negotiable for the right candidate * 12+3 rotation - 3 weeks leave earned for every 12 weeks spent on site * All flights and visas arranged and provided * All meals, accommodation, laundry services and uniform provided
